Makin' it in California since 1979

Ruszel Woodworks started small in the garage of John and Maggie Ruszel in Walnut Creek, California.  John owned three delicatessens in the area and when gift boxes and store fixtures were needed, he called on his son Jack to make the pieces.  Soon customers at the delis began asking where they could get some of the nice wooden boxes.  In those days it was a hammer and nail operation with Jack hand making each box, and making deliveries in his Volkswagen microbus. 

In 1979, Ruszel Woodworks officially opened for business in a small shop just down the road from our current location.  Friends and family became employees and a true family business was born.  John hung up his apron at the delis and came to work alongside his son as his business grew.

By 1983, the work had outgrown the small shop, and Ruszel Woodworks moved to our current home, a World War II Army building.  Since then, we've developed new woodworking techniques, invented new tools, added buildings and employed five of Jack's six siblings as well as four of his children. 

Our focus has become point of purchase displays and store fixtures, although we still make boxes and many other specialty items.  We've grown a lot since those humble garage beginnings, both in volume and capabilities, but our core values and the integrity of our work has never changed. 

We still manufacture all of our products in the USA, so our business supports the local and national economy and is held to some of the highest environmental standards in the world.  Our family of employees is made up of your neighbors.  We work towards sustainability through responsible stewardship, and because our products are made in America, we help reduce the environmental impact of transporting products from overseas.
